Here's my journal of events of the convention. I wrote it as we went along, so I don't think there's much missing.
Well, I didn't sleep very well Wednesday night, so I got up at 6:25 and stayed up all morning. Finished packing, then was off to the airport. Got there at 12:00 pm, checked in, and the rest of the crew, Toby, Lauren, Jessica, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith got there at 12:30. My first flight ever. Pretty cool. I got the window seat. The clouds were awesome. o.O Poor Toby had to practically undress when he went through security he was wearing so much metal jewelry. I had to take off my shoes.
The flight itself was pretty bumby but otherwise uneventful. We got to the Atlanta airport where it was HUGE and VERY crowded. Tons of people. We had an adventure trying to find this place in the airport that my mom said had the best cinnamon rolls EVER. It was called Cinnabon. Well, according to the map, there were two locations in which it could be found. It wasn't in the first location, and mind you, we had a mere thirty minutes to t4rack this place down. We had no idea about the Tran System, so we were running back and forth between these concorses trying to find this place with enough time to get something and be back before we were left behind. But remember, this place was HUGE AND PACKED WITH THOUSANDS PEOPLE. But, during the last minutes, we found the Tran System, were able to find Cinnabon, not enough time to get anything, but we remembered where it was so that we could stop by there in the way back, and finally got to our terminal on time. The next flight I got a little nauseous, but not too bad. It was a short flight from Atlanta to Baltimore. It took us a while to get to the convention center to get our pre-registration, but once we get there the wait wasn't all that long. Got a really cool badge.
The hotel was awesome. our suite had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining room and a living room. There were three large tv's, a microwave, and a full fridge. Very posh. Though me, Lauren, and Jessica all shared a bed that was kind sized, I still ended up on the floor. It's just a personal space thing I guess. That or I didn't want my foot to end up in Lauren's ass. I might have had trouble getting it out, and it would have been a mite uncomfortable for her.
Next morning got up at the crack of 7:30 after Chinese food at 1:45 in the morning and Conan O'Brien, who, we decided, needed to be at Otakon. We also outlined our schedule for things we thought we might wanna do.
When we got to the actual convention center, the line wrapped around the entire two blocks, and spiraled in some places even. The doors were locked and they couldn't find the shmuck with the keys. But they finally sorted it out and we were some of the first ones in. XD We spent the first couple of hours taking pics ad had some breakefast at the Starbucks Vendor. We were scheduled to see the AMV contest at 9:00 and we were going to hold off on going to the dealer's room so that the crowd could thin a bit. Jess and Toby decided they didn't want to wait through the entire AMV contest, so I followed them as they took off to the dealer's room early.
It... was.... HUGE. GARGANTUAN. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I bought the following items that day :One Piece's Color Walk 1&2 (<3<3<3<3), a Kuro Neko pillow for Kaylee, a hanging knick knack holder (One Piece ), another Zoro pencil board (drool), Ashley's Sanji plushie, Simon's present *mysterious mysterious*, a Sanji coffee mug (a present for Ashley, I was half tempted to keep it myself), a Mechazawa mug <3<3<3<3<3(Cromartie high, my prize posession), Get Backers vol. 4, a study head band that says "Pass The Test" (I'll be needing that one this year), three new pins (a kodama, a One Piece flag, and the mouse from Spirited away), and a Megatokyo shirt for Michael. Thought he might have already have it but he doesn't.
After what seemed like many euphoric hours, our next event was the dreaded Para Para. Yous ee, I have no rhythm, and I wasn't really looking forward to making a fool; of myself. But it was a blast and it's something I'm looking forward to pursuing in the future. That was at 6:00 pm and we stayed at the convention until like 9:00. Went home, got some dinner and crashed.
Next day we went and spent some time taking pics and went to a webcomics panel. The creators of Mack Hall (sp?) and Apple Geeks were there. It was fairly interesting, even for one who doesn't read web comics. Lauren had a Full Metal Alchemist photo shoot cuz she was cosplaying Izumi, and Funimation was advertising the release of FMA by doing the photo shoot and giving out collectable cards and the likes. It was pretty cool. The giant statue of Alphonse was there again. XD Then we went down to the harbor which was right down the street. We ate lunch of a pavilion over looking the harbor (so cool) and then came back to the hotel so Lauren could change into more comfortable clothes for the Larc-en-ceil concert. I decided not to go, seeing as though A), I'm not particularly interested in J-Rock or J-Pop, and B), I had a nasty headache. I stayed at the hotel, took some tylenol, watched Antwone Fisher (very good movie, almost cried), then slept a bit. Got up and called Ashley, then met Jess, Toby, and Lauren back at the convention in line to watch THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME ZATOICHI!!! Best movie. Ever. I almost didn't get in though.
Jess and the rest of the crew had already been seated, and they were just squeezing people in by the time I got there. There supposedly wasn't enough room for me, but I know they had saved me a spot. I was pleading with the "Bouncer", who was about a foot shorter than me, to let me in because I knew they were saving me a spot.
"Well they're not SUPPOSED to be saving a spot for you, now are they?"
I snarled. Then Jess shows up at the door waving frantically at me. I point her out to the guy and say,
"See?"
"Well it still-" Began the jerk, when another staff member came out. He looked at me and saw Jess and said,
"I know her. Let her in."
I didn't know the guy from Bob. But wherever he is, I thank him.
But the movie was awesome. I must own it some day. After that we went to a rave and watched some people break dance. It was cool. We finished the evening at 1:45 am in the J-pop room watching music vids.
Next morning we slept til 10:00 and missed the showing of Hero, which was the only thing we had planned for that day. But I bought it in the dealer's room later that day anyway. We watched it on Lauren's comp at the hotel. It was another awesome movie. Very beautiful.
We ate at a cafe called the Peacock cafe and took pictures of the harbor. Twas fun. We actually went back to the dealer's room where I bought Kaylee some Psycho Le Cemu stickers, got another little something to add to Simon's stack of stuff, and bought a kick ass crab hat in the harbor. Went back to the hotel and screwed around for a while, then went to dinner at a Japanese place called "Shogun" where I tried Soba for the first time. I don't really have much to say about it either way.... It's not bad or anything. But I love tempura and that was awesome. I also ordered Oyaku-don, which was most yummy. Called mom that night so I could speak to her before her surgery the next morning and told me Ashley would be picking me up from the airport.
We went back to the hotel where Lauren's parent's crashed, and the rest of us stayed up and created a game called "Tofu Grappler", where basically three people wrestle to regain the stuffed Tofu we bought for Allie at Tofu Records. Poor Tofu. I was the Master of Ceremonies, btw, because I wasn't all that interested in wrestling anyone with acrylic nails and glasses. -_-
Next day was uneventful. Got sick on the second plane home. Finally got those damn Cinnabons. They were worth it though. Ashley was there to pick me up and I gave her and Michael their presents.
The End.
Summary: Best damn con ever. Thank you Lauren for giving me the opportunity.
